ELY TOWNSHIP — An Upper Peninsula man has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle accident Sunday morning.
At approximately 10:45 a.m., 26-year-old Matthew Croschere of Marquette was traveling west on US-41 in Ely Township when he attempted to pass a semi-truck in the passing lanes known as the Evergreen Stretch. Croschere lost control of his 2010 Toyota Corolla on the snow covered road, crossing the center line and striking an eastbound vehicle. Croschere died as a result of the crash.
That vehicle, a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban was driven by 62-year-old Gerald Honeyager of Dousman, WI. Honeyager and his wife, the other occupant in the vehicle, were both seriously injured in the crash. They were taken to U.P. Health System – Marquette for treatment of their injuries.
Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The Ishpeming Police Department, Ely Township First Responders, UP Health System – Bell EMS and Juntii’s Towing Service all assisted the Michigan State Police at the accident scene.
