Man dies in logging truck accident

MELLEN TOWNSHIP — One man is dead after a logging truck accident in Mellen Township.

Deputies from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office say the incident happened in the woods off County Road 577 around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. 68-year-old John Alfred Goffin of Wallace was hauling a load of logs on his skidder down an ice- and snow-covered hill when it slid and overturned, landing on its side.

Goffin was pinned between the roll bar of the cab and the ground. Police say he died at the scene.

Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Mellen Township Fire Department, Mid-County Rescue Squad, and Mid-County Extrication Unit.
