Man charged with two felony counts after breaking and entering incident

HOUGHTON — A Houghton County man accused of breaking into a camp appeared in Houghton County Circuit Court this afternoon.

Camiel Bryce Vanhaecke, 49, is charged with second degree home invasion, a 15 year felony and possession of burglar’s tools, a 10 year felony. Vanhaecke stood mute to both charges so a “Not Guilty” plea was entered on his behalf by the court.

The charges stem from an incident last month regarding a break–in at a seasonal residence in Duncan Township. Vanhaeke was arrested shortly after. He is currently being held on a $250,000 cash bond.

Vanhaecke’s girlfriend, 31–year–old Leah Harding, disappeared in late April and hasn’t been seen since. Vanhaecke is considered a person of interest but has not been charged in her disappearance.

He is scheduled for a pretrial hearing in about four weeks.
