Man Attacked by Black Bear
A 49-year-old man is recovering from injuries he suffered after being attacked by a black bear in Mackinac County on Sunday night.
The victim is a mid-Michigan resident who was sitting in his tree stand about a dozen feet off the ground when a female bear and her three cubs approached.
The mother climbed the tree and the hunter tried to fight off the bear by kicking it. When the bear continued to attack, the man shot it with his rifle.
The victim suffered non-life threatening lacerations to his leg and was taken to a nearby hospital by a member of his hunting party.
The DNR and the Michigan State Police are investigating the incident.
