Mackinac Isl. nurse program at NMU
NMU has been hosting several events in celebration of Women’s History Month.
This morning, NMU featured a presentation about Stella Bell King, a public health nurse on Mackinac Island from the early 1920s until the 1980s.
King was the first lay nurse to ever work on the island and made many valuable contributions to the nursing and health field in her time.
Presenter and researcher Susanna Braman has long had a great interest in uncovering King’s work.
She’s been researching Stella Bell King for the last five years and is hoping to record King’s contributions made over time for permanent history.
