Mackinac Bridge deer count up from 2012

One sign of a strong beginning to firearm deer season is coming from the Mackinac Bridge Authority.

The group keeps a count of the number of deer taken south from the U.P. across the Mackinac Bridge throughout the season.

As of 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, 58 deer had been driven south across the bridge so far. At the same point in 2012, hunters had only taken 21 deer from the U.P.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority updates its deer count total three times a day.
