M-28 Open Again After Crash

M–28 in Chippewa County is open today after a four–vehicle traffic crash closed part of it for more than seven hours on Wednesday.
The county Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened at 3:30 yesterday afternoon near the Soldier Lake Campground, 30 miles west of Sault Ste. Marie.
Police say witnesses and other evidence suggest that a westbound semi driver did not see a car that was stopped in the westbound lane, trying to turn left.
The semi hit the car and pushed it across the center line.
An oncoming SUV then struck the car.
The semi overturned, losing the two rolls of coiled steel that it was carrying.
Police say one of the rolls struck an eastbound van.
Four people were treated at War Memorial Hospital for injuries and released.
None of their names are available.
The affected section of M–28 was closed until about 11 last night.
Besides removing the vehicles, crews had to clean up a fuel spill from the semi and repair damage to the road surface.
