M-64 Still Cosed in Ontonagon County

M-64 in Ontonagon County may be re-opened Thursday evening. James Lake, Communications Representative for MDOT Superior Region, says materials are expected to be delivered to the closure are today. Lake says, if everything goes according to plan, the road will be opened by 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Michigan Department of Transportation closed M-64 Monday between Bergland and Silver City in Ontonagon County. The roadway was compromised by rising water when a beaver dam blocked a culvert beneath the highway about five miles north of Bergland.

The Ontonagon County Road Commission and MDOT are working together on an emergency replacement of the culvert.

The official detour route for M-64 traffic between Bergland and Silver City is on M-28, US-45, and M-64 west of Ontonagon.
