LSCP meets with Ishpeming City Council

A new approach to building the economic base in Ishpeming was discussed today at a special City Council meeting. The Lake Superior Community Partnership and the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce will join forces to strengthen business.

The council heard an LSCP presentation about the agency’s offerings, incentives and capabilities. LSCP leaders say the agency currently works with Ishpeming businesses, but wants to work more strategically with the Ishpeming City Council and the Chamber of Commerce.

“Ishpeming has been using economic development services, and I think they can definitely use more and we want to provide more,” LSCP director of business development Caralee Swanberg said. “As our services expand, we want to make sure the city is aware of that. It’s important that the city and the LSCP work together to make sure the message gets out to the business owners that services are available and that the LSCP is here to help.”

The Ishpeming City Council, the Chamber of Commerce and the LSCP plan to establish regular business building sessions to address new business ventures and assist current businesses in growth opportunity and potential.
