Lost Midnight Run Musher

The weather wasn’t the only adventure that one of the mushers in the Midnight Run had to contend with.

34–year–old Greg Cameron of Rutherglen, Ontario, Canada got lost during the race.

He and his dog team crossed County Road 480 at about 9 Friday night.

But he failed to show up at the next checkpoint.

Race officials notified the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Unit.

While deputies were on their way to the course, they learned that Gregory’s emergency locator beacon had been activated.

Gregory’s racing teammate gave the GPS coordinates from the beacon to race officials, who then gave them to police.

Gregory and his dogs were found safely.

They even continued in the race, but they were an eventual scratch, finishing 15th.
