Longtime Journalist Running for Office

Gary Walker also has a Republican opponent.

Longtime U.P. print and broadcast journalist Pete Mackin will face off with him at the polls in Chocolay Township for the township supervisor position.

Mackin says it’s intimidating to run against someone who hasn’t lost an election since before he was born.

But he has extensive experience with local advisory positions like the Marquette County Planning Commission, the Marquette County Corrections Advisory Board and the Marquette Senior Services Advisory Committee.

Mackin believes he can use that experience to help the township.

He’s also in Detroit tomorrow and Saturday for the Michigan Republican Convention.

Marquette County has many new delegates to the convention this year, and Wednesday night, he was training them on what to expect.

Here’s who the Marquette County Republicans are sending:

Pete Mackin, Chocolay Township

Aaron Holliday, Marquette

Brian Peterson, Marquette
