Local firefighters hold annual fundraiser

MARQUETTE — The Marquette City Fire Department came together to hold its annual fill the boot event.

This event was created in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. MDA works with individuals and families who suffer from any related muscle-debilitating diseases. For MDA employees, seeing the firefighters participate in this fundraiser is exciting and humbling.

“Marquette alone is a department that is such a small community and it’s really cool to see them come together and raise just under $14,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association” said MDA Fundraiser Coordinator, Murphy Maes.

During the event, there was a visit from a young man who suffers from a muscle-debilitating disease. For one local Firefighter, the cause is very close to his heart.

“Personally it means a lot to me because my Grandma died from ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, in a small way it’s my way of giving back, trying to raise money, and trying to find a cure” said Marquette City Fire Department Firefighter, Brett Beaudry.

MDA did mention that the Marquette City Fire Department is in the top five for highest amount raised throughout the U.P. and Wisconsin areas.
