Local car wash hopes to soak up funds for soldiers

A Marquette business is raising money this Fourth of July weekend for soldiers in the area and the units in which they serve.

Superior Express Care and Wash is holding the benefit this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The proceeds will go to the U.S. Army Reserve 652nd Engineer Company in Harvey and the Michigan National Guard 107th Engineer Battalion in Ishpeming.

“They do an awful lot for us. They really do. We just want to give back to the community and really show them that we appreciate them,” said Nicole Corne of I Do Events & Weddings. “We’re grilling out with live music at Border Grill. Border Grill’s doing the food.”

A $10 donation will buy food and drink, a car wash and an entry into prize raffles. The business will also donate $10 for every person who buys an oil change that day.

“Last year, they raised over $900. This year we’re hoping for an awful lot more than that,” Corne added. “We’ll probably go for $1,500.”

Soldiers from the two units will join other volunteers to help wash the cars and cook the food.
