Local brewery wins big in Michigan poll for 'Best new brewery'

ISHPEMING — A local brewery was recently ranked in the top ten of a statewide poll.

Cognition Brewing Company in Ishpeming was ranked number eight in the MLive.com poll of the best new breweries in Michigan.
The brewery has a variety of beers available, like IPAs, Lagers, Ales, and many others.

Cognition has been around for just over a year. MLive.com called the brewery “the perfect kind of community place.”

“It’s been a lot of hard work and a lot of just going with your gut and trying things and sometimes you know just being willing to step out of your comfort zone and do some things that you aren’t normally used to doing. A lot of beers that we brewing now are beers that we brewed for the first time here. Never on a homebrew scale or anything like that.”

In July, the brewery placed first in a MLive Trolls and Yoopers vote.

Richards added that in the fall, the brewery will have malt focused beers and will do something with Octoberfest. In September, Cognition Brewing will be at the Fall Beer Festival in Marquette.
