Little League Baseball Team seeks donations

PORTAGE LAKE — An Upper Peninsula Little League Baseball team is getting ready to head downstate to compete for a state championship. They’re looking for a little help financially to help offset some of the costs.

The Portage Lake 9 & 10-year-old old All–Stars won the District 11 championship Friday evening. Now, the boys from the Copper Country are a few days away from the state tournament in Saint Clair. The trip is expected to cost a couple thousand dollars.

“We have 11 players on the team and 11 families that need to travel down downstate. It’s going to be 500 to 600 mile drive plus hotels and meals. That’s where all of the money is going for to reimburse our families,” said manager Wes Frahm.

“It’s an unexpected expense for us, but a good one. That’s what we’re raising funds for. This is the goal. When you start playing all–stars, the goal is to win the district and represent your district downstate. We’ve accomplished that now and the guys have played really well and I feel really good about our team,” Frahm added.

Portage Lake will play a minimum of three games at the state tournament. They could play as many as six games in a six–day stretch.
