Legislation to name highway after fallen police officer moves forward

LANSING — Legislation that would rename part of a major highway in Dickinson County to honor the memory of a fallen police officer is moving forward.

House Bill 5205 was unanimously passed by the Michigan House of Representatives last week. The bill would designate the portion of US-2 running through Norway as the “Kenneth J. Moraska Memorial Highway.”

Moraska was a Norway Police officer who died by gunfire while responding to a domestic disturbance on May 23rd, 1971. The bill will now head to the Senate for consideration.
