'Legacy of Love' campaign underway for new Beacon House

MARQUETTE — Imagine trying to secure $6 million in funding to construct a new building. That’s exactly what The Beacon House in Marquette is currently working on.

Their goal is to have $6 million in pledges by next summer. Officials with The Beacon House are raising money for the new Beacon House, which will be built next to the new hospital in Marquette.

The new facility will have sixty beds, a community style kitchen, a designated lounge for cancer patients with compromised immune systems and more. Beacon House CEO Mary Dowling is calling the fundraising effort, ‘Legacy of Love.’

“The Legacy of Love is really these people who come back over and over again and year after year and sponsor the things that we do with their love,” said Dowling. “We’re now into some of our second and third generation of guests at Beacon House, so it started with the parents and then the children and now those children’s children are staying here. We’re just so grateful we can be here for them,” Dowling added.

For as little as $8 a month for the next five years, you can help support the project. The first presentation about the new facility will be Wednesday at The Bluffs in Houghton at 1:30 p.m.

Plans for the new Beacon House were unveiled in June at the Celebrity Golf Classic. Iron Mountain native Steve Mariucci donated $150,000 towards the fundraising efforts.
