Learning the evolution of the bra

To make Breast Cancer Awareness Month more interesting–and educational–Bell Hospital added in bit of fun and history.

The hospital hosted a seminar on ‘The Evolution of The Bra’.

Like the name change from brassiere to bra, its function has changed.  Your grandmother may not have ever worn a sports bra.  And, most of us have never had to deal with the bras that were first introduced use to be so tight, they actually broke ribs.

Today, there is a wide selection that can flatten, flatter, or flaunt.

“Eight-five percent of women are wearing the wrong bra size.  They usually have the bands too big or the cup too small.  The average cup size goes up one size every decade, so the girls that are coming in A, B, C, and D are way too small,” Owner of U.P. Bras That Fit Linda Romps said.

The importance of making ‘getting screened’ a priority was the key message at the end of the seminar.

“They put their kids first, they are too busy, or they don’t have insurance,” Romps said.  “If you don’t get tested for yourself, do it for your family, your friends and those that care about you.”

Bell Hospital is offering Free Breast Cancer Screening Friday, but appointments are necessary.
