ISHPEMING — Plans to install of a boating access site at a Marquette County lake took a step forward Wednesday night.

The Parks and Recreation Division of the Michigan DNR is adding a launch ramp and a parking area in the southwest corner of Lake Angeline in Ishpeming. Members of the DNR held a public open house Wednesday to answer any questions and concerns people have about the project.

“The natural resources are perfect,” said Eric Cadeau, a Regional Field Planner for the DNR. “It is a cold water fishery, which is rare to have inland as well as it’s very rare to have near urban areas. Having an excellent cold water fishery in close proximity to the city of Ishpeming was highly desirable.”

The project has a tentative start date of Aug. 1. DNR officials say that the construction phase will take two months to complete.

Lake Angeline has been a popular fishing site for some time. The DNR plans to manage the lake as a two–story fishery, meaning all kinds of fish will be up for grabs for anglers to fish for.
