Lady Wildcats stun Lady Huskies, NMU men fall to MTU

MARQUETTE — A lay-up by junior guard Bre Gaspervich with less than five seconds to go put the Northern Michigan women’s basketball team ahead to an upset win over the Michigan Tech women’s basketball team 71-69 Monday night at the Berry Events Center.

Gaspervich finished with a team-high 21 points. Freshman guard Darby Youngstrom chipped in with 19 points and six rebounds. Senior center Kylie Moxley lead all scorers with 27 points. Senior forward Danielle Blake finished with 19 points, but her shot at the buzzer fell short to send the game into overtime.

As for the men, it was the Huskies over the Wildcats 69-56. Freshman forward Kyle Monroe led the way for MTU with 19 points. Sophomore guard Jordan Perez scored 16 for the Wildcats, who couldn’t overcome a 40-26 first-half deficit.
