MARQUETTE — Black Friday is on the way but if local ladies want a jump start on their holiday shopping they can start this Thursday.

Sometimes “ladies night” means staying in and sharing a bottle of wine, but not this week. No this week it’s about getting out on the town and having a great time shopping and maybe share a bottle of wine…

Thursday night is the 19th annual Ladies Night in downtown Marquette thanks to it’s Downtown Development Authority. All you have to do is register and pick up your “passport.”

The cost of the passports will also support a local charity.

Marquette Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Mona Lang says, “They’re two dollars a piece with the proceeds going to the Women’s Center to support their operations, and the passports work that you go to 10 different businesses have them mark your passport, fill out your name, and get a chance to win one of three fabulous gift baskets from our downtown businesses.”

Local businesses will also try to spoil the ladies with in–store giveaways, hors d’oeuvres, sales, specials, prizes and more. This event gives ladies the chance to come shop at their favorite businesses and check out some new ones like Spruce Wax and Skin.

If you can’t make it out, these small businesses also offer different ways to connect.

Owner of Spruce Wax and Skin Elizabeth Collins says, “We have online booking at Spruce so it’s really easy to go online. You know I just want anyone to feel comfortable contacting us with questions or anything they might want to know about the service, and I just want people to come in and get quality service, know what they’re getting, what to expect and walk away from their appointments, you know, ecstatic and really happy.”

The event runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Thursday.
