Kiwanis Club prepares for upcoming barbecue

MARQUETTE — The Kiwanis Club of Marquette is getting ready for their 60th annual barbecue.

For decades, the Kiwanis Club of Marquette has been celebrating summer — and giving back — with a warm–weather tradition. The annual Chicken Barbecue fundraiser the club puts on will hit its milestone sixtieth year this summer. For a ten dollar donation, barbecue enthusiasts can partake in the signature recipe while helping to support youth–oriented organizations and projects in the area.

“We have about a quarter mile of barbecue pit set up,” said Carl Gordon of the Marquette Noon Kiwanis Club. “There will be 2,700 birds being burned on that day. We will serve no chicken before it’s time however.”

Proceeds raised by the barbecue have gone to organizations like Big Brothers, Big Sisters and the Girl Scouts. The club is also working to raise money for a new playground at Presque Isle. The grills will be lit up Sunday, June twelfth, from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Arena.

Tickets can be purchased from any Kiwanis member or at the door.
