Kingsford Man Charged with Stambaugh Murder

A Kingsford man is in police custody tonight on murder charges in connection with the death five weeks ago of an elderly Iron County woman.

44-year-old David Levack was arraigned in 95th District Court in Crystal Falls this afternoon.

He faces two homicide charges, a first-degree home invasion charge and a charge of witness intimidating while committing a crime, while threatening to kill or injure someone.

Levack also has habitual offender status attached for a third offense.

The Iron County Prosecutor issued the charges after the death of 81-year-old Joyce Johnson of Stambaugh Township.

She was to testify against Levack in a home invasion trial on September 27th.

When she didn’t show up for court, sheriff’s deputies performed a wellness check on her and they found Johnson dead at her home.

A Grand Rapids forensic pathologist determined the cause of death was homicide.

The Iron Mountain Police, Kingsford Public Safety and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department have helped the Iron County Sheriff’s Department and the State Police in the investigation.
