Kingsford Mail Processing Center Will Close

The U.S. Postal Service says it’ll close its Kingsford mail processing center in the near future.

The facility was on a master list that the USPS released today.

It’s one of 264 nationwide closures or realignments, eight of which are in Michigan.

Operations would be moved to Green Bay.

There’s no word on when exactly the change would happen.

A spokesperson for the Great Lakes region of the Postal Service says the closure of the Kingsford processing center will mean the loss of about 50 jobs.

In–house collective bargaining continues to keep the Kingsford facility open.

The closure of the processing center will not affect regular post office operations.

Electronic bill pay services, e–statements and transportation costs are being blamed for the consolidation of postal services.
