Kids’ dogsled rides kick off Copper Dog 150 events

CALUMET — This past weekend, organizers of the CopperDog 150 race held their first major event of the season: dogsled rides for children.

Young fans of the big race had a chance to ride around Agassiz Park in Calumet on a sled that was pulled by dogs that will be participating in the Copper Dog 150.

Marketing director Todd Brassard says educating the youth is an important part of the CopperDog race.

“This is an annual event that we do,” he said.  “It’s part of the educational component of the CopperDog 150. Part of our mission is to educate people on the sport of sled dog racing and its time-honored tradition.”

Those who wanted to get involved in the race also had a chance to sign up.

Volunteer registration is already open at copperdog150.com.
