A new website will be a one-stop place for anyone who wants to visit or move to the Keweenaw to get an up-close look at it.

The up-and-coming collaborative portal site is called the Keweenaw Living website.

The idea for the site came about after a local hospital lost a recruit to another community that had a portal site, showing all that area had to offer with videos and photos.

10 different organizations are involved with the site — the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance and the Michigan Tech SmartZone are 2 of them.

All 10 are contributing funding for the next 3 years, so the site will have no advertising.

The video-driven website will give outsiders a feel of what it’s like to live, work and play in the Houghton-Hancock area.

There’s already a prototype designed, but organizers hope to have the finished product online in the early part of next year.
