Kennecott Eagle Mine Project on Schedule
The Kennecott Eagle Mine project is half way through it’s construction phase and tonight members of the Marquette County Townships Association and community members received an overview of the mine’s progress.
The Kennecott mine will be the only primary nickel mine in the US and is expected to produce 300 million pounds of nickel and 250 million pounds of copper.
Construction of the three year project began in may of 2010.
The Eagle project is on schedule and Matt Johnson the projects Manager of External Affairs says they should be mining ore within in a year.
The Eagle mine is located about 25 miles northwest of Marquette on the Yellow Dog Plains.
