Kayakers rescued from Escanaba River

Two kayakers are safe after being stuck in rapids near Boney Falls on the Escanaba River.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Department says Delta County Central Dispatch received a call about the two kayakers just after 9 p.m. Friday.  The caller said two kayakers had made it to shore, but two were still in the water.

Police were able to find the kayakers near the Boney Falls Dam.  A 21-year-old Bark River man and a 19-year-old Escanaba woman were rescued using the Delta County Search and Rescue Team’s swift water rescue equipment.

The two kayakers were treated at the scene and released.

Troopers from the Gladstone Post of the Michigan State Police, Rampart EMS, Rock EMS, and a hovercraft from the Gladstone Public Safety Department assisted at the scene.
