July 4th Drunk Driving Patrols

Police are reminding drivers to be smart on the roads this week as the Fourth of July holiday approaches.
Law enforcement agencies in 26 Michigan counties, including Marquette County, are paying extra attention to impaired drivers.
The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning is funding extra patrols through federal traffic safety dollars.
Michigan State Police Sgt. Kevin Dowling from the Negaunee Post says the patrols have been out since Friday night, and they’ll stay out until midnight this coming Sunday night.
He says the State Police will concentrate on tomorrow, the Independence Day holiday itself and Thursday, while other agencies will run most of the patrols during the remainder of the period.
Last year, July 4th fell on a Monday.
There were eight fatal traffic crashes in Michigan over the four–day holiday period a year ago, resulting in eight total deaths.
