Marquette Senior High School Head Varsity Hockey Coach Joe Papin has resigned.

One of only 4 Head Coaches in Redmen Hockey history, Joe was with the Redmen for 12 years, 8 as Head Coach. Since joining the Redmen coaching staff he has been to 8 MHSAA final 4’s, won 2 State Championships and finished State runner-up 2 times.

During his tenure his teams have won 9 out of the last 12 Regionals titles and have won 10 GNHC and 11 GLHC League titles. Overall, Coach Papin has a 155-35-14 record as the Redmen Head Coach. Joe has had several All State players and All-State Academic teams.

He was also involved in helping build the teams’ lockerroom at Lakeview Arena, he started the Redmen Hockey Golf outing which has helped defray the ice costs for the all the players on his teams. He was instrumental in starting the Alumni games, an annual event during the holiday break, and the Redmen/Electrician Charity game.

In 2011-2012 he helped start the new JV hockey program.

“I’ve truly enjoyed my time as the Redmen hockey coach and all the players, parents and volunteers I’ve met. Those relationships will last a lifetime and that’s what’s most important to me”.

Running the program takes a lot of time and dedication throughout the year. The time has come to take some time off from being the Head Coach. It’s not fair to the players if I’m not giving them 100% of my effort.  It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a couple of years. I love the game and will always be a part of it in some way or another.”

Joe’s dedication to the program, his hockey knowledge, state-wide hockey connections, and his overall leadership will be missed at MSHS.  The Athletic Department will be interviewing applicants in the near future.
