Jail Time and Probation for Deer Poacher

A Rapid River man caught poaching deer is serving jail time and probation.

He’s also lost the right to hunt until 2012.

33-year-old Timothy Johnson was arrested August 25th for taking a deer out of season on the Stonington Peninsula.

He pleaded guilty to that, and he’s received 20 days in jail and 2 years’ probation.

Johnson was with 50-year-old David Plante, also from Rapid River, that night.

State police found an uncased rifle and 2 deer in Plante’s car.

He pleaded guilty to drunk driving, 2nd offense, possessing a firearm while under the influence and taking a deer out of season.

Those are all misdemeanors.

Plante is waiting in the Delta County Jail for his November 24th sentencing.
