Jail, probation for man who drove SUV into Ishpeming High School

The Ishpeming man who crashed his vehicle into Ishpeming High School last fall was sentenced Tuesday to 30 days in jail.

Joseph Pennala, 29, was credited for one day served and will start serving time Friday.  He will spend 12 months on probation and pay $5,000 in restitution plus almost $2,000 in other court fines and costs.  Pennala is ordered to pay the restitution by April 27, 2015.

He pled guilty to two misdemeanor charges, OWI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident earlier this month.

Pennala’s SUV hit the north side of Ishpeming High School in October.  When police arrived on scene, the vehicle was stuck inside one of the building’s walls and Pennala had already fled the scene.
