"It's a special day," claims one ice cream loving kid

NEGAUNEE — If the kid in the featured image looks happy, it’s because he’d recently been fed what is likely, but not confirmed to ABC 10, to be his favorite treat: ice cream.

Some lucky little ones got plenty of it today thanks to a new mobile business in town. Oscar’s Ice Cream Treats made the hot summer a little more bearable for the kids at Little Friends Children’s Center.

“We started Oscar’s Ice Cream Treats. It’s our family business,” said Brenda Krause, an owner of the business, “And Little Friends Daycare has invited us a few times each month to come and give out ice cream to the kids here as a special treat at the end of the day.”

The business started out last September as an ice cream bike operation. Over the winter, the Krause family decided to expand their business from a bike to a van. And the kids are reaping all the benefits.

“It’s a special day cause it’s really hot outside,” claimed one child, perceptive enough to know the ice cream comes when the weather heats up.

Other children were simply thankful to Little Friends for the refreshing treat, “The daycare is nice enough to do it for us because we’ve been good kids.”

The kids have caught Oscar’s Ice Cream Truck after school twice now. If you’re not one of the lucky kids, you can find the truck at various events throughout the summer, including the upcoming Harbor Fest and Calumet’s 150th Anniversary.
