Ishpeming Water Main Break
Public works crews in Ishpeming have been busy throughout the day dealing with a water main break.
It happened sometime overnight on First Street near the intersection with Hematite Drive.
An off–duty DPW employee noticed it at 5:30 this morning and called it in.
Much of the area has been closed off to traffic all day.
DPW director Jon Kangas says it was a very large break, with a water loss of 3,000 gallons per minute until it was sealed off at about 7 am.
The affected area is very small, and Kangas says there probably will not need to be a boil water advisory because of the break.
