Ishpeming Plastics Plant Back on the Table…Again

It hasn’t happened in Ishpeming yet, even after being voted on twice within the last year.

But the City Council is about to revisit a land sale so that a controversial plastics plant can be built there.

The city’s once again considering selling about 3 acres near the old Mather A Mine site to city businessman Bob Airaudi.

He wants to build a polyurethane manufacturing plant, adding 25 to 30 jobs.

The Wabash Heights residential area is nearby.

Homeowners from the neighborhood have spoken out repeatedly about possible chemical emissions and noise.

However, the Downtown Development Authority is asking the City Council to approve the sale.

It got the OK last July, but Airaudi never signed a sale contract.

A second vote last month failed, largely because more than one council member was upset about Airaudi leaving them hanging earlier.
