Ishpeming places offer for Superintendent

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Public Schools District has been searching hard for a new superintendent.

After 15 applications and 5 interviews, the school board has placed an offer for the position.

The offer has been made to Carrie Meyer, who is currently the Superintendent of L’Anse Area Schools. The board interviewed a number of excellent candidates, all with some form of superintendent experience or a long–standing building administrator. But at the end, the board felt that Meyer stood above the rest.

“Mrs. Meyer really had all of the qualities that the board was looking for,” said Ishpeming Interim Superintendent Anthony Bertucci, “by that I mean: the years of experience, the familiarity with Upper Peninsula schools, and the familiarity with Ishpeming. I think that all of those things together made her the top candidate.”

The board is expected to meet with Meyer on Tuesday night to review the particulars of a contract. If an agreement is reached she would likely begin sometime in the beginning of November. ABC 10 will be talking with Meyer in person on Monday.
