Ishpeming Neighborhood Watch Leads to Less Crime

Earlier this year, Ishpeming police asked area residents to participate in a neighborhood watch program.

And the response has led to a noticeable decrease in crime.

Larceny and burglary reports are down about 35% from this point a year ago.

Assault is down 30%, and malicious destruction of property complaints are down 20%.

The police have followed up on tips from the public and assigned officers to watch specific houses and area, which has led to multiple arrests.

Sgt. Ron Schultz says it’s been especially helpful in making illegal and prescription drug arrests.

The next neighborhood watch meeting isn’t until January 27th.

But if you live in Ishpeming and notice any suspicious activity, police are asking you to call them at 486-4416.
