Ishpeming man involved in police standoff sentenced to probation

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming man who was the center of a 15-hour police standoff will spend a year on probation.

In addition to probation, Robert Rajala, 33, will have to attend counseling, have no contact with the victim, and avoid alcohol and controlled substances.  Rajala was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but that sentence will be deferred.  He was also ordered to pay over $1,300 in fines.

Rajala pleaded no contest to aggravated domestic violence in September.

During a police standoff in April, Rajala assaulted his girlfriend and made threats about killing people.
