Ishpeming man accused of shooting dog pleads guilty
An Ishpeming man accused of shooting a dog pled guilty to a weapons charge today in Ishpeming District Court.
William Huot, 62, is charged with the careless discharge of a firearm with property damage over $50. Huot is accused of shooting an eight-year-old Weimaraner named Corby near Suicide Hill on January 12th.
Huot claims he mistook the dog for a coyote while hunting within the city limits. Police say Huot told them that because of low light conditions, he did not see the yellow vest and orange collar Corby was wearing. The Ishpeming Police Department says that Huot put Corby in his vehicle to take him to the vet, but he was already dead.
If convicted, Huot faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail or a fine of up to $500. He’s scheduled for sentencing on March 4th.
