Ishpeming house fire

The Ishpeming Volunteer Fire Department is investigating a house fire in the city from this afternoon.

It happened at 340 West Division Street shortly before 1:30 p.m. No one was home at the time, and no one was hurt.

Ishpeming Fire Chief Ed Anderson says a neighbor saw smoke and called 911. By the time firefighters arrived, there was light smoke throughout the first floor. Chief Anderson says the blaze appears to have started in the southwest corner of the basement and traveled up an interior wall to the first floor.

The Red Cross and the Pigs–n–Heat Fire Relief Fund are helping the residents. The Negaunee City Fire Department, Marquette County Search & Rescue 131 and Bell Memorial EMS assisted at the scene.
