Ishpeming City Council Recall Election
In U.P. politics, the recall effort against three members of the Ishpeming City Council will make it onto the ballot this spring.
Marquette County Clerk Peter Dishnow says the recall election will take place on May 8th.
Supporters of former city police chief Jim Bjorne have pushed a possible recall since last October.
Dishnow says they collected 570 valid signatures against City Council member Claudia DeMarest and 558 each against council members Elaine Racine and Mike Tall.
The three voted to deny Bjorne a transfer of service time that would have allowed him to retire last April with a full pension.
Bjorne was fired last September for alleged insubordination and misconduct.
DeMarest, Racine and Tall each have 72 hours to submit a rebuttal statement that will appear on the ballot with the recall question.
