Ishpeming Carnegie Library soon to be the “coolest” place to be

ISHPEMING — With temperatures on the rise this week, some people will be looking for a cool place to hang out, and soon the Ishpeming Carnegie Library will fit the bill.

Adding air conditioning to the library was one of the topics of discussion at Wednesday’s city council meeting. The library has seen several improvements in the past months, and this project continues that trend. It’ll cost about $18,000, but the bill will be paid for with donations.

The council also heard a proposal to improve the entryway. That job will run about $5,000 and the money will come from the public improvement fund.

“The Library has been making a lot of progress and we just want to continue doing that. This is just continuing the efforts that have been ongoing thanks to the library staff and, especially, charitable donations and efforts by Mr. Ray Leverton and others in the community. We’ve been able to fund most of the improvements, which are real significant improvements, through donations and not using tax dollars. The library is looking really great,” said City Manager Mark Slown.

In addition, the council is considering hiring a consultant to design a disc golf course at Al Quaal. There’s already a course in place, but the plan is to add more holes and more challenge for the golfers.
