Ishpeming active meth lab suspects arraigned
ISHPEMING — An Ishpeming man was arraigned today on two felonies in connection with an active meth lab that left two police officers and both suspects injured.
29–year–old Steven Greenleaf was arraigned from jail via video conference before Ishpeming District Court Magistrate Jennifer Bennon. Greenleaf and 27–year–old Aimee Fraley are charged with two counts each of delivery/manufacture of methamphetamines. The charges carry a stiff penalty if convicted.
“Again, this is a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine,” said Ishpeming District Court Magistrate Jennifer Bennon. “Unless you are sentenced to more than one year in prison, the court must impose license sanctions by law. I am not asking you if you agree with these charges, but do you understand what you are charged with?”
“Yes ma’am,” Greenleaf answered.
Bond for both is set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing for the pair was set for January 6th. Magistrate Bennon appointed an attorney to represent Greenleaf.
Greenleaf was arrested Tuesday evening by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement team and the Michigan State Police at a relatives home on County Road 550. Fraley was arrested Sunday after she and Greenleaf were treated for exposure to meth fumes at U.P. Health System Bell. The suspected meth lab was found at an apartment complex at 655 Maurice Street early Sunday morning.
Two Ishpeming Police officers were also treated at Bell after being overcome by fumes from harsh chemicals used in making meth.
