Iron Ore Heritage Trail Update

Members of the Northern Center for Lifelong Learning were given a presentation on the current and future condition of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail this morning.
The presentation focused on updates to the trail over the last year.
It also was a chance to announce that the biggest chunk of trail that will connect the west end of the county to Marquette is set to begin construction later this summer.
Carol Fulsher of the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority says after this next piece is completed, there will be about 30 miles of completed, connected trail.
She says although that’s not the complete trail, it’s enough for the authority to begin publicizing the trail to out-of-town visitors.
The state is currently bidding the project out to contractors, and work should start by mid-to-late July.
