Iron County Wolf Poaching
The DNR is ready to arrest a Wisconsin man for wolf poaching in Iron County.
The agency says they got calls last Tuesday night that a dead wolf had been seen a little south of Iron River.
Conservation officers found the wolf, and they say it died of a gunshot wound.
Wolves are a federally-protected species in Michigan.
The DNR says they traced evidence at the scene to a nearby camp.
The suspect is a Green Bay man, and he’d already gone home from camp by then.
But the DNR says he’s agreed to come into court in Crystal Falls next Monday.
He’ll be arrested and arraigned once he shows up.
The DNR says they expect he’ll be charged not only with wolf poaching, but also hunting deer without a license.
