Investigation underway into cause of house fire

An arson investigation is underway into a New Year’s Day house fire.

The home at 535 East Michigan in Marquette was heavily damaged in a fire that started around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

All of the occupants were able to get out of the home safely.

It took almost eight hours for fire crews to fully extinguish the fire.

According to the Marquette Police Department, arson investigators have interviewed several people and are continuing to look into the cause of the blaze.

The 17 Marquette firefighters were assisted on scene by Marquette Police, Marquette Township Fire, Marquette Public Works, MGH 141, Marquette Board of Light and Power, Semco Energy, and the American Red Cross.
