Investigation continues into U.S. 2 accident

The investigation is continuing into a traffic accident involving five vehicles including a school bus in Schoolcraft County that closed U.S. 2 Thursday morning.

The Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened just before 8 a.m. just east of the Kewadin Casino in Manistique Township.

They say a westbound logging truck rear–ended a passenger car.  The car and the logging truck spun into the eastbound lane of U.S. 2 and landed in the ditch.  Then, a vehicle traveling behind the logging truck hit another vehicle stopped behind a school bus, knocking it into the bus.

Three people in the vehicles were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.

The Sault Tribal Police, Michigan State Police, Department of Natural Resources and Manistique Public Safety assisted the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department.
