Investigation continues into accident which killed pedestrian

An investigation into the death of pedestrian in Gogebic County is continuing.

The incident happened around 8:48 p.m. Wednesday  at the intersection of U.S. 2 and Mikado Road in Wakefield Township. 18-year-old Lindsey Sullivan, of Bessemer, called Central Dispatch to report that she had struck a pedestrian.

An accident investigator from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s office who responded to the scene says the pedestrian, 49-year-old Susanne Sutton of Ironwood, stepped into the lane of traffic as Sullivan drove past.

Sutton died on impact.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department says alcohol is not believed to be a factor with the driver, however it is believed to be a factor with the pedestrian.

Deputies were assisted on scene by troopers from the Wakefield Post of the Michigan State Police and Beacon Ambulance personnel.
