Initiative tries to increase Internet access in Marquette Co.

Increasing Internet access was the topic of discussion at a recent Marquette County Townships Association meeting.

On the agenda was a presentation by Loia Ellis, a representative from the Marquette County Broadband Initiative.  The initiative’s goal is to try and increase the range of Internet access to Marquette County residents.  The ability to have more residents with Internet access allows the county to be more competitive, especially in schools and businesses.

With the project, the county will need to assess broadband capabilities throughout Marquette County, and find gaps or underserved areas.

The project is being completed through Connect Michigan, a Michigan Public Service Commission.  The Broadband Initiative will have a meeting on January 30 to discuss more on the issue.
