Indiana man pleads guilty to attempted joyriding charge

An Indiana man pled guilty to a lesser charge in Iron County District Court Monday. Howard Charles Adkins, 43, of Cedar Lake, Indiana was originally charged with a 2-year high court misdemeanor of joy riding. But, that charge was reduced to attempted joyriding in a plea deal, cutting the possible sentence in half to just one year.

Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office arrested Adkins on March 12th in a vehicle stolen from a Mastodon Township residence. The man who owned the vehicle reported it missing, noting that he had been warming it in his driveway earlier that morning.

Adkins will be sentenced in Iron County District Court on April 14th.
